The Bryn Mawr-Haverford Theater Program will also contribute to the fall 2017 Flexner Lectures with its fall production, Riot Antigone. Created and directed by guest artist Seonjae Kim, Riot Antigone is Kim’s take on Sophocles’ tragedy.  It is told from the perspective of a Chorus Leader and a punk band of diverse gender identities, reminiscent of the '90s' Riot Grrrl movement iconized by bands like Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney and Bratmobile. Riot Antigone is also inspired by Bonnie Honig’s previous work on Sophocles’ play.

Through explosive live music, percussive movement and primal poetry, a chorus tellsl the myth of Antigone through a feminist lens. A ritualistic and passionate rock concert as well as an intimate coming of age story, Riot Antigone is about the power of an individual who dares to carry a revolution upon herself.
