Dance majors Luciana Fortes '13, Antonia Z. Brown (Hfd '13), and Christopher Flores (Hfd '13) have choreographed three pieces being performed at this year's artist showcase, "Tabitha."

Thirst, choreographed by Antonia Z Brown

An inspiration from the story of Moses and the Burning Bush.  Antonia is interested in the development of Moses, the Burning Bush, and Moses' sister Miriam as distinct characters and players in a larger plot, and particularly Moses' internal versus external struggles with his own identity and a harsh landscape.  The piece also has a unique score : it uses Australian digeridoo, Sacred Harp singing from Alabama, and African water drumming to create a rich elemental soundscape.

Black Lining, choreographed by Luciana Fortes

An inquiry into the complex realities and beauty of human relationships, encountered through one's journey in finding themselves. The music has been a key player in the development of this path, serving as a primary partner for the movement and as a tool for unraveling the discoveries along the way. Cello, Spanish guitar, accordions, trumpets and drums are her friendly companions throughout the process, along with the hardworking dancers.

The Coming Glory, choreographed by Christopher Flores

A reflection on his life's experiences with God. In researching for this piece he has taken inspiration from Scriptures, various theatrical scores, fashion shows, and his personal relationships with those around him, specifically his dancers. One of his main goals in creating the piece was to create something beautiful, elegant, and dramatic.

Each piece will be followed by a 10-minute intermission and a reception will be held after the show. This event is free and open to the public. "Tabitha" was sponsored by SGA, Haverford College, and the Bryn Mawr Dance Program.
