Iraqi-American
poet Dunya Mikhail will be reading her poetry at an event titled, "I was
in a Hurry: Dunya Mikhail Shares Her Life Experiences." Dunya Mikhail, born in
Baghdad, left Iraq in the mid-1990s after her work as a journalist landed her on
Saddam Hussein's enemies list. She
has published her poems extensively in Arabic and received critical recognition. Her translated
work is dramatic and accessible; her new work in English has gained
popular as well as critical recognition.
This event is sponsored by the Programs in Arabic, Art, Comparative Literature, Middle East
Studies, and the Department of English. The Class of 1902 Lecture Fund
also provided generous support.
